[Review] The Quad – 02×01 ‘#INLOVEANDTROUBLE’
The Quad is an hour-long, HBCU-themed television drama series created by Felicia D. Henderson and Charles D. Holland and developed by Rob Hardy. It airs Tuesdays at 10:00 P.M. EST/9:00 P.M CST on BET. You can also check out episodes on BET’s website if you can’t watch it on television or missed it. The show features a diverse cast of mostly black actors from a variety of ages, experience, and appearances including Anika Noni Rose, Zoe Renee Thomas, Jazz Raycole, Jake Allyn, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Michelle DeFraites, Peyton Alex Smith, Sean Blakemore, and E. Roger Mitchell. The series premiere was produced by David Grace, written by Henderson, and directed by Michael Allowitz. Guest performances included RonReaco Lee, Redaric Williams, Seth Kuhlmann, Aeja Lee, Katlynn Simone, Miles Stroter, and Larry Rhem. The show follows nine characters in their lives surrounding the HBCU that is Georgia A&M University, abbreviated as GAMU. It features intense situations and scenes such as (physical and sexual) assault, relationship drama, death and grief, drug dealing, street violence, power dynamics, hazing, toxic masculinity, police brutality, family drama, abuse, structural and institutional antiblack racism, poverty, and social pressures.
